Frequently asked questions

We are available to answer any questions that you may have but please see below for commonly asked questions including what to expect during sessions, how physiotherapy helps babies, children, and teens, and when to seek professional support. Whether you’re a parent, caregiver, Case Manager or solicitor, our FAQs are designed to give you confidence and clarity of the key points relating to our children’s physiotherapy service.

Our Children’s Physiotherapists help babies, children and young people following serious and catastrophic injuries at birth, after an accident or following diagnosis of a long-term condition. At PaedsPhysio we have extensive experience in providing rehabilitation for children with a wide range of conditions including cerebral palsy, brain injury, spinal cord injury, complex trauma and developmental disorders, in addition to physical difficulties associated with a range of other neurological, neuromuscular, rheumatological and orthopaedic conditions.

PaedsPhysio provide services to children privately, as well as during and following litigation. We recognise the important role and responsibilities we assume when providing rehabilitation during litigation and have developed comprehensive assessment and treatment processes that result in long term improvements, whilst also supporting the claims process with detailed written, photographic and video records.

No, you do not need a referral from a doctor, consultant, or any other healthcare professional to access paediatric physiotherapy at PaedsPhysio. We accept direct enquiries from parents, carers, schools, case managers and solicitors, making it easy to get the support your child needs without delay.

Whether you’re concerned about your baby’s development, your child’s mobility, or a teenager’s recovery after injury or surgery, our children’s physiotherapists can assess and begin treatment without the need for a GP letter or NHS referral.
While referrals are not required, if your child is already under the care of other health or education professionals, we’re happy to work collaboratively with them to ensure a holistic and coordinated physiotherapy plan.
To get started, simply contact us via our website or call our team to arrange an initial consultation. We provide home, school, and nursery visits across Hertfordshire, Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire, Northamptonshire and North and West London, making access to high-quality private children’s physiotherapy straightforward and stress-free.
The PaedsPhysio team has extensive experience of working with Case Managers and Solicitors to provide rehabilitation for clients with complex needs during and following the litigation process. Our approach is aspirational, yet realistic, with the aim of maximising independence and maintaining health.
PaedsPhysio accepts instructions to complete Initial Needs Assessments (INA) to identify each child’s rehabilitation requirements and to provide recommendations for physiotherapy treatment, technology and equipment needs. Our paediatric physiotherapy reports are comprehensive, and our treatment programmes are goal directed and holistic. We welcome initial enquiries and offer meet and greet consultations via video without charge to ensure that our Paediatric Physiotherapist is the most appropriate for the family and to begin the process of establishing a therapeutic relationship with the child.
At PaedsPhysio, we deliver personalised, effective paediatric physiotherapy for babies, children, and young people. Our highly trained and experienced children’s physiotherapists are committed to evidence-based practice and ongoing professional development, ensuring our treatments remain current, effective, and tailored to each child’s unique needs.
The type of physiotherapy we provide depends on your child’s condition, age, physical abilities, and therapeutic goals. Our treatments may include hands-on therapy, specific exercises to strengthen muscles, improve posture, and support functional mobility, as well as the use of specialist physiotherapy equipment and walking aids. We also focus on maintaining or improving joint range of motion and movement patterns as your child grows and develops.
For younger children and babies, therapy is centred around play, using fun and engaging activities to encourage movement and participation. These strategies are designed to be incorporated into daily routines, ensuring maximum progress between sessions.
PaedsPhysio also offers intensive physiotherapy programmes for children undergoing rehabilitation or following specialist procedures, such as Selective Dorsal Rhizotomy (SDR), Botulinum Toxin Injections, intrathecal baclofen pump insertion, or orthopaedic surgery. In every case, your child’s physiotherapist will work collaboratively with the family and other healthcare professionals involved to create a coordinated, holistic treatment plan.
In addition to direct therapy, our team provides clear home exercise programmes supported by photos and videos, detailed movement analysis, and guidance on accessing community-based physical activities. Our goal is always to empower children and families with the tools and support they need for long-term success.
At PaedsPhysio, all private children’s physiotherapy appointments are scheduled for one hour, unless otherwise arranged in advance. This allows our paediatric physiotherapists the time needed to deliver high-quality, focused care, whether we’re providing treatment, or reviewing progress.
For new clients, particularly when we are instructed during litigation, a comprehensive initial assessment may require a longer appointment of up to two hours. If this is the case, we will discuss and confirm the extended session with you beforehand to ensure enough time is allocated for a thorough evaluation of your child’s needs.
Our goal is to make every session as productive and supportive as possible—whether it takes place in your home, school, nursery, or other appropriate setting.

PaedsPhysio operates Monday to Friday, from 8:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., providing flexible paediatric physiotherapy appointments during standard working hours. Our team aims to respond promptly to all enquiries, and you can call us on 0800 915 3288 or reach us at any time through our contact page, where you can submit questions or request an appointment. We’re always happy to help guide you through your child’s physiotherapy options and next steps.

At PaedsPhysio, we kindly ask for at least 48 hours’ notice if you need to cancel or reschedule your child’s paediatric physiotherapy appointment. Cancellations with less than 48 hours’ notice may incur the full session fee, as short-notice changes limit our ability to offer the appointment to another family.
We do, however, fully understand that many of our clients have complex needs and that unexpected changes can occur. In these cases, we always aim to be flexible and considerate. If you need to amend an appointment, please get in touch as early as possible so that we can support you in rearranging your session.
