PaedsPhysio works with babies, children and young people throughout Bedfordshire, including Luton, Dunstable, Bedford and Leighton Buzzard. The county is a short journey from our Hertfordshire base, so appointments here are easy for us to arrange around your family’s week.
Your child is seen where they already are, whether that is at home, at nursery or at school. A clinic room tells us how a child performs in a clinic room. Watching them manage their own stairs, their own classroom and their own playground tells us something far more useful.
Working this way also brings in the people who are there every day. Parents, teaching assistants and carers can watch, ask questions and practise with us, which is what turns a weekly session into daily progress. Our who we help page describes who we work with and how.
We start with a full paediatric assessment, covering how your child moves, their strength and posture, their balance, and the everyday tasks they find difficult. We then set goals together with you and your child, and design a treatment programme to reach them. The goals we set tend to be everyday ones, such as sitting without support, joining in at playtime, getting up the stairs, or lasting a full school day.
Through our neurological physiotherapy we support children with cerebral palsy, brain injury, spinal cord injury, spina bifida and peripheral nerve injuries including Erb’s palsy.
Children recovering from injury or an operation come under our surgical and orthopaedic physiotherapy, which covers trauma and fractures, recovery after selective dorsal rhizotomy, recovery from surgery, and amputee rehabilitation.
Our neuromuscular conditions service covers muscular dystrophy, spinal muscular atrophy and juvenile myasthenia gravis. Our genetic conditions service covers Down’s syndrome and Rett syndrome.
Plenty of the children we see do not have a formal diagnosis at all. That covers developmental delay and coordination difficulties, alongside the wider children’s physiotherapy presentations including hypermobility, plagiocephaly, torticollis, Perthes disease and positional talipes.
Where a family, school or legal team needs something in writing, we provide physiotherapy reports covering what we found and what we recommend. We also offer training and consultancy for teaching assistants, school staff and carers across Bedfordshire who want to understand what they are being asked to do and why.
Case managers instruct us for children across Bedfordshire, both after catastrophic injury and for children with lifelong conditions. Our case managers page sets out our process from instruction through to review.
Luton, Dunstable, Bedford and Leighton Buzzard are our main areas in Bedfordshire, and we travel to the villages around them. Ask about anywhere else and we will tell you honestly whether we can get to you.
No referral is needed to get started. Ring 0800 915 3288, email hello@physio4you.co.uk or fill in the form. Your child’s age, what you have noticed and whereabouts in Bedfordshire you are is enough for us to reply usefully. There is more about the PaedsPhysio team or look through our frequently asked questions before contacting us.
